How Zinc Works
Zinc possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which can help alleviate the inflammation associated with eczema and reduce symptoms such as redness, itching, and irritation. Additionally, zinc supports wound healing and skin regeneration by promoting cell growth and tissue repair.
Zinc deficiency can compromise the skin's barrier function and impair immune function, both of which are implicated in the development and exacerbation of eczema.
Zinc also plays a vital role in the immune system's ability to combat infections. It is involved in various immune functions, including the development and function of immune cells, the production of antibodies, and the regulation of inflammation.
A large portion of the population is zinc deficient due to poor availability in soil in many countries. Zinc deficiency has been linked to impaired immune responses and increased susceptibility to infections.
Zinc may help inhibit the replication of viruses, enhance the activity of immune cells such as T cells and natural killer cells, and promote the production of cytokines, which are signaling molecules involved in the immune response. Additionally, zinc possesses antioxidant properties, helping to protect cells from oxidative stress caused by pathogens.
